While it might be easy to blame outside demands for putting a damper on the mood, perhaps its indecision causing a delay and creating unfulfilled expectations. Either of you could be waiting for answers or acting on assumption. You’ll need to look beneath the surface if you want to figure out how to manifest an objective that carries a risk factor. In the meantime, someone is becoming aware of just how much they’re getting (or not) from the current arrangement and whether it might be better to just deal with something single-handedly.
