Chiron, the “wounded healer” returns to the sign of Taurus for the second time this century after completing a 50 year orbit. The timely entrance into the grounded energy of the bull signals a redressing of old wounds related to natural resources, material wealth, value systems, body image and self worth.

The argument for what lies ahead might be in the comparison of the present to one of the most notable events of the past during Chiron’s last visit through Taurus—the Great Inflation. Lasting for nearly two decades, it upended the global monetary system heralding four economic recessions, two severe energy shortages, and the unprecedented peacetime implementation of wage and price controls.
A variation of the previous script and even the same players from the last go round have made a repeat comeback. Nixon’s decision to delink the dollar from the gold standard became the catalyst that disrupted international trade. Likewise, Trump’s excessive government spending and debt financed war with Iran coupled with Netanyahu’s failing strategy has lead to the closure of the Strait of Hormuz triggering the possibility for severe and immediate global economic instability.
In the aftermath of the “Nixon Shock,” the United States suffered through the 1973 Oil Embargo in retaliation for its support of Israel. Six years later, the political upheaval of the 1979 Iranian Revolution created another massive drop in oil production resulting in tripled energy prices. Then, as now, the effects significantly reduced the standard of living for everyday consumers. The 80s were further marked by extreme volatility, aggressive deregulation, and the eventual shift from double-digit inflation to a massive stock market boom thanks to the radical money tightening efforts of Federal Reserve Chairman Paul Volcker. So here we are collectively once again facing the parallel of an economic climate saddled with persistent inflation and wage stagnation.
On the up side, environmental awareness grew out the period, albeit largely as the result of some shocking major environmental disasters that resulted in milestone legislation including Clean Air Act Amendments.
With shifting economic conditions as the backdrop, where will your personal healing take place? The triggers are likely to be situations that focus on issues of lack and scarcity concerning money, food, and resource management. Lessons will place emphasis on not having enough or the feeling of not being enough as you’re challenged to examine human value against a standard of measurement related to achievement, productivity and net worth. Questions will undoubtedly arise about the price you’re willing to pay for peace and relief.
But the Chiron archetype is not just about abandonment and wounds that never heal. It’s also about a turning point that encourages an original approach that unbinds you from societal, cultural, or authoritative strictures. Learning to accept your physical, financial, emotional and spiritual authenticity allows you to serve as a maverick or mentor for others.
