Shooting it Straight – Fire Signs/July 8-12

Here’s a heads-up on the challenge or obstacle you’re likely to face in your love relationship this week (problem) and what’s at the root of it (action). The advice is irreverent, a bit cheeky, unfiltered and admittedly brazen. The message is putting either you or your partner on notice. You know who you are! If you’re offended by the truth or strong language–stop here.

There’s been some gain–but at what cost? Perhaps you’re conflicted about what the “ideal” actually looks like. A false sense of security could be leading one of you into a losing battle with the resultant casualties of war. A lot of anger and resentment centering on expectations, demands, or suspicions have caused your relationship to start careening out of control. As a consequence of poor choices and the inability to master shadowy impulses, either of you might have to contend with some form of instability that affects your property, assets, or reputation and requires a revision to your budget or schedule. If one of you feels dominated or controlled, you may be gearing up for a war of words, especially if you’re inclined to retaliate in response to a smear campaign of secrets, gossip or rumors. But even when the lines are drawn, don’t draw your gun just yet or you might shoot yourself in the foot. Forget the sticks and stones, it’s your own words likely to hurt you. Better to use that determination toward overcoming the current challenge by moving forward with your own sense of purpose. Satisfaction comes through making peace with yourself for your own peace of mind.

And what is it that either of you may need to know but don’t really want to hear?

I’m tired of waiting for you.

What just happened?! That went right over my head! Perhaps every time you try to take control of a situation, something you didn’t expect happens. On the other hand, someone else may get pushy and suddenly rush to take the reins of control. Sure, things are moving quickly–in the wrong direction! Energy applied toward a pursuit or relationship that ends up nowhere could cause one of you to lose your temper or act in surprising ways. There are a gamut of issues that need to be resolved–like yesterday. And yet, relying on the impulse to take a risky gamble could mean a hasty decision with negative results, particularly if self-esteem is at stake. One minute someone wants to be free and blurts out the wrong thing and the next, well–I think I love you. Situations could also involve disruption, jealousy, commitment, or other problems. But because one of you hasn’t owned up to taking personal responsibility in this situation, matters now require a reassessment and a different strategy. As a matter of fact, you’re practically forced to make adjustments because of something you never saw coming that you’re not prepared to deal with.

And what is it that either of you may need to know but don’t really want to hear?

You know this is about me, right?

I’m sick of talking about this. Pretty sure the fairy-tale life you were shooting for wasn’t Goldilocks before she finally got it right. One of you is starting to wonder if you’ll ever be happy and losing faith in a connection, especially if there’s an imbalance between personal and professional demands. Extreme mood swings that run from hopeful optimism to utter disappointment may link directly to stagnating circumstances related to physical or material well-being. Perhaps you’re wondering if this relationship is even suitable due to constant obstacles (both internal and external) that seem to deter it. You might even disregard an opportunity or reject the love offered, especially when it’s conditional with strings attached. Alternatively, one of you could be smothering the partner to the point that you don’t allow space to be an individual. In any case, your biggest asset (or liability) is how you feel about yourself. A recent setback or two could be at the root of either apathy or radical behavior that undermines the very happiness you seek. Stepping back to register the lesson may give you a jump start for strategies to get back on track. Someone will have to apply real effort if they expect anything to grow or improve.

And what is it that either of you may need to know but don’t really want to hear?

Talk is cheap. I’m still waiting for results.
