Perhaps today marks the unveiling of a creative project after diligent effort, but for some, a release is less than artful. The French poet, Jean de La Fontaine, wrote, “Nothing is more dangerous than a friend without discretion; even a prudent enemy is preferable.” He was a fabulist, a 17th-century writer of fables, but perhaps you’re familiar with a fabulist of a different sort–a liar, especially a person who invents elaborate, dishonest stories. Try as one might to suppress certain things, something is bound to come out and it’s up to you to determine its value. The message may be driven by fear, ego, or arrogance or by true authenticity in the unfettered belief in self and one’s own convictions. Although it produces uncomfortable change, it might also feel liberating if it releases you from a controlling partnership or a stagnant, confining circumstance.
